Within our collection are artists who cultivate fine figurative art and whose works are considered postmodern. Still, elements of symbolism can be found in the works of Nickolay Bondarev, Alexander Polenov , academic elements can be seen in the works of Arkadij Levin, Alexander Shirovskij, Alaxej Panferov , modern naive and Lubok art with Alexej Charougin, Alexej Smirnov-Voskresenskij , myth-creation with Andrej Medvedev, Alla Krashina-Shadova , cubism with Aram Kupetzian , Fiodor Rabitchev and fine figurative realism with Sergej Travnikov, Vladimir Filatov, Vladimir Bogdanov, Alexander Chernov. Although surrealism rarely appears in Russian art, our gallery has examples of Russian surrealism in the works of Jurij Zwetaev.
A number of our artists combine two or more styles within their works, reflecting the period of postmodernism. Space has been designated to socrealism – an original and interesting style of Russian (Soviet) art. This style, from the 50s, 60s and 70s, is represented in the works of Ivan Aristov, Marat Samsonov,Ivan Sobakin, and Michail Bogatyrev
The best examples of socrealism have a high level of professional technique, bright colors and wonderful strokes and drawings. Many of the socrealist artists were not only talented drawers and painters, but also masters of genre painting. Very interesting is the etudes and sketches within their paintings. These are picturesque and powerful and some examples are even more powerful than the paintings themselves.
