Vladimir Filatov was born in 1961 in Alma-Ata, the capital of Kasachstan, and lives today in St-Petersburg. He studied at the Moscow Print Institute.

The artist expresses his pictorial instinct with the help of various media but he prefers canvas and graphic sheets. Several different external influences, such as everyday life in St-Petersburg, have formative influence on his pictorial ideas. Filatov, however, devotes himself more to the positive and beautiful aspects of life, in order to summon up creative power for himself and his paintings.

In his works he is led by the profound interdependence and correlation of feeling and colours. Moreover, in his paintings Filatov also expresses his own philosophical reflections about life, with the striving for the ultimate reality and meaning. For this purpose he falls back upon biblical motives. The depiction of this subjects helps the artist to convey his personal opinion about god and evil in a very subtl way.

Filatov is firmly convinced that all forms of art are closely connected. In those pictures that are dedicated to music and the great composers he tries to express the musical qualities by means of clear lines and bright spots of colour.
