Petr Melan was born in 1947 in Czech Republic.Graduated from the Accademy of Applied Art in Prague in 1975.Initially he concentrated mainly on applied graphic art and illustration, but now he is chiefly concerned with free graphic art, bibliphyly and exlibrises. He usually he works with the etching, aquatint and mezzotint techniques. his work is characterized by the poetization of real elements. He has taken part in number of collective exhibition and held 10 individual exhibitions.
